We are seeking an experienced Lead Avionics Technician for a premier corporate aviation maintenance operation in Van Nuys, California. This position supports inspections, testing, troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, and return-to-service activities on high-end business jets within a fast-paced FAA Part 145 environment.
This role combines advanced avionics expertise with team leadership responsibilities. The client is looking for a strong troubleshooter—not just an installer—who can lead technicians, support complex diagnostics, oversee inspections, and ensure work is completed safely, accurately, and on schedule. Modification experience, strong leadership skills, and high-level corporate aircraft avionics experience are essential.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Lead and oversee the avionics team to ensure timely and efficient completion of maintenance tasks in compliance with FAA regulations, manufacturer specifications, and company procedures
Serve as the primary point of contact between the avionics team and maintenance leadership, ensuring clear communication of project goals, priorities, and timelines
Perform inspections, testing, troubleshooting, repair, removal, and replacement of aircraft avionics and instrument systems
Diagnose and correct complex avionics discrepancies involving electrical systems, wiring, navigation systems, communication systems, and cockpit instrumentation
Complete avionics modifications, upgrades, and installations while ensuring proper system functionality and regulatory compliance
Perform 91.411 and 91.413 inspections and certifications as applicable
Troubleshoot and support SATCOM systems and related communication equipment
Work with avionics systems including Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, and Gogo platforms
Perform as an Authorized Inspector, conducting in-process and final inspections and supporting return-to-service approvals
Ensure accurate maintenance documentation, work orders, log entries, and removal/installation records in compliance with FAR Part 43 requirements
Mentor and train junior technicians through hands-on guidance and on-the-job training
Coordinate with inspection, materials, and maintenance control teams to support on-time aircraft return-to-service
Maintain avionics test equipment and ensure team compliance with work area organization and safety standards
Monitor team performance and promote a culture of accountability, safety, and high-quality workmanship
Requirements
Minimum 5+ years of avionics experience in a Part 145 environment required
Part 135 experience preferred
Leadership experience such as mentoring, supervising, or leading technicians required
Strong troubleshooting experience required — install-only backgrounds will not be considered
Modification experience strongly preferred
Experience performing 91.411 and 91.413 inspections preferred
SATCOM troubleshooting and support experience preferred
Experience working with Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, and Gogo avionics systems preferred
Strong corporate aircraft avionics experience required, specifically: Challenger 300, Global Express, Gulfstream GIV, Gulfstream G450, Cessna Citation X, Cessna Citation 560XL
Advanced hands-on experience with Gulfstream and Bombardier aircraft strongly preferred
FCC License preferred but not required
Ability to obtain FAA Repairman Certificate required
A&P License is a plus
Must have own tools necessary for the job
Strong knowledge of maintenance reference materials, wiring schematics, and technical manuals required
Experience using CMP and CAMP maintenance tracking systems preferred
Strong attention to detail, time management, organization, and problem-solving skills required
Valid driver’s license with no major infractions required
Must be able to pass pre-employment screenings and comply with airport/security requirements
