Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Performs paint application to original equipment manufactured (OEM) structural parts, components and subsystems for aircraft applications using products and processes that are varied and moderately complex to complex in scope to apply primer, topcoat paint, and any spray-applied coatings to aircraft parts consistent with government, customer and company standards. The level of work requires experience and sound judgment. Reads and interprets specifications and documents to define the scope of work on work orders. Cleans grease and dirt from product. Removes rust from metal with acid, wire brush, or steel wool. Applies masking tape over parts and areas that are not to be coated. Fills cavities and dents with putty to attain smooth surface. Computes mix ratios in order to mix paint materials. Selects and mixes coating liquid to produce desired color. Pours coating liquid into spray container and connects gun to air hose. Turns sprayer valves and nozzle to regulate width and pressure of spray. Selects the appropriate personal protective equipment for the operation to be performed. When using a respirator ensures the respirator is working properly and is properly worn. Applies spray onto work surface to apply prime or finish using protective or decorative material such as paint, enamel, glaze, gel-coat, or lacquer. Coats areas inaccessible to hand sprayer with brush. Heats and sprays wax onto products after they are tested. Cleans spraying equipment and brushes with solvent. Ensures compliance with environment regulations and maintains records in accordance with these environment regulations.

Requirements

High school diploma or G.E.D. and Two (2) or more years of experience in aircraft painting, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

At least 4 years of experience in avionics Performs wire by wire, power, functional and operational check-outs of electrical and avionics systems prior to aircraft flight. At least 1 year of experience using computer systems and aircraft diagnostic software. Required to set-up all required electrical and electronic test equipment in compliance with technical data, and then complete the appropriate functional tests that are required for each system Required to troubleshoot problem systems and take the appropriate actions to correct discrepancies Able to work on maintenance stands, extending to 25 feet with or without reasonable accommodation Able to work in confined spaces and in unusual positions. Identifies the structural composition of aircraft (i.e., aluminum or composite) prior to performing any work on the structure. Performs repairs on noted discrepancies, and effectively researches manufacturer’s manuals for appropriate repair procedures prior to performing repairs. Prepares and maintains simple records such as work order documentation, logs, and time and material records, as instructed. Follows safety procedures and wears/uses appropriate safety equipment for the work being performed. Reads instructions and safety information as necessary for proper and safe completion of assigned work. Performs other duties as assigned.
