The A & P Aircraft Mechanic repairs, maintains, and services District aircraft in compliance with the directives and standards of the Federal Aviation Administration and policies and procedures as set forth by the District Board of Commissioners and administered by the Executive Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Check and determine the need and extent of repair and maintenance to be made to District aircraft so that aircraft stays in proper working order. Perform pre and post flight inspections and maintain District owned aircraft under the periodic inspection program specified by the FAA for charter aircraft in order to provide a reasonable assurance that aircraft are functioning properly. Fuel aircraft and load with chemicals as required so that aircraft have enough fuel and chemicals for each mission. Maintain and rebuild aircraft engines and airframe as needed with an objective of all aircraft being mission ready. Assist in the design and fabrication or modification of special equipment such as liquid and dry application equipment resulting in fully functioning equipment to assist in the abatement of mosquito populations. Prepare requisitions and work orders under the direction of the Director of Aircraft Maintenance for parts and materials needed to maintain District aircraft in a state of readiness. Perform routine maintenance and repair to facilities in order to keep the building in good working order. Operate forklifts and other ground support equipment as needed to help complete tasks. Assist ground operations when needed with maintenance, repair, and operation of vehicles and spray equipment as necessary in order to have functioning ground equipment. Reinforce aircraft operation sites when aircraft operations exceed the capacity of the Aircraft Support Technicians in the field. Follow Federal and State laws and District policies regarding health and safety to ensure compliance. Track critical shortages and update / communicate critical shortage reports to provide priority to receiving and warehouse. Identify, communicate Quality Notification delays. Modify demand allocations for specific jobs as required. Work with Engineering as needs arise to identify the need to modify the standard bills of materials. Amend usage decisions/ errors in inspection lots and warehouse returns. Initiate new part set ups, as required, for items not previously procured. Aircraft Painter will be responsible for sanding and preparing surfaces for paint, mixing paint products and applying paint products within the allocated man-hour budgets and on schedule while maintaining quality standards and performing the tasks within the guidelines of all safety and regulatory regulations and requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Mask, sand, and prepare aircraft for paint application. Apply glazing and sealing compounds in preparation for final painting. Operate and maintain all types of preparation and priming equipment. Mix paints and primers. Perform leading edge sealant work in final detail. Comply with all safety, 5S, and housekeeping policies. Use personal protective equipment and ensure aircraft interior is protected (PTP).

Requirements

Must report for assignment with personal set of standard trade specific tools High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum of 3 years of related painting experience (including yacht and Naval. Excluding commercial or residential paint experience) Able to work from designs or verbal instructions to perform layout design. Familiarity with applicable manufacturer standards and Company procedure governing the care and treatment of aluminum. Able to use standard spray paint equipment: paint guns, sanding equipment, dual action orbital sander and common hand tools. Able to stand for long periods of time. Able to lift and carry 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation Must not be abnormally allergic to paint, paint stripper, solvents, primers or other paint related products that produce fumes or dust while using. Ability to use a respirator.
